Things you should know before taking a home pregnancy test.

Things you should know before taking a home pregnancy test.

In today’s world, due to innumerable inventions of science and technology it is quite easier to detect the ailments or any other physical or medical conditions that your body might be undergoing. Say, for example, the digital diabetes test kit that is available these days to help patients keep a track of their level of diabetes. Similarly, the availability of pregnancy test-kit to help women (likely to be pregnant) detect whether she is pregnant or not.
This test-kit is one of the most convenience inventions of all time. Today, you can buy a pregnancy test-kit and get confirmed about your pregnancy at home itself. These days , there are two kinds of kits available in the market- conventional kit and the digital one. A digital test maybe more sensitive
But in order to use it accurately you need to acquaint yourself with certain precautions or you can say guidelines.

When to test?- You can take the test 3-4 days before your missed period. But this may also sometimes go wrong, Wait a day or two more and take the test again. As fertilization of the egg does not always mean to use a pregnancy test. First a woman has to be ovulating for pregnancy to occur.
Since sperm can survive for several days in the woman’s body it is possible that the woman may get pregnant several days after having intercourse.
how does it work?- The test is based on the measuring of a hormone called hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). This hormone is released by the developing placenta and its traces can be found in the urine after the implantation of the embryo in the uterus.
Best suitable time of the day- Although the test can be performed at any time of the day, some women may get better results if done in the morning. The reason being that in the morning urine is more concentrated and the hormone levels will be stronger.
Do not panic if you are testing it for the first time- If you’ve never taken such kind of test at home before, don’t worry. It is very easy and nothing to worry about its complication.
Read the directions- It is very important to read the directions carefully as going wrong on your part can be due to the ignorance. In the tests that use two lines to indicate your pregnancy , one line may be very faint. This should not be avoided as the faint line might be a signal that you are highly likely to be pregnant. However, the darkness of the line does not signify how far along the pregnancy is.
Do not over trust / under trust any brand- Certain times the kit may be damaged, expired, non functioning or something else. Thus do not rely too much on any brand or chase away cheap brands. It is important to ensure that the kit isn’t damaged or expired.
Tests can give wrong readings too- Although the tests done at home are considered to be 97 % accurate. But their can be instances when the test may give either positive or negative result. However, false negatives are more common. It can happen due to testing too early, reading the test result too soon or too late, or testing it incorrectly.
Usage of fertility drugs- Women who use fertility drugs containing hCG may not get the accurate results with it. In such case you must consult a doctor for the test.

About Us

SheWings is a social movement to spread awareness about menstrual health among homeless, low income women and teens. Menstruation is a natural process. However, in most parts of the country it remains a taboo and is rarely talked about. We believe that no one should go without menstrual hygiene. We are a social enterprise to break the taboo about menstruation. We don’t need to speak in ‘low tones’ about menstruation. Let’s make as much noise as we can!
