If you are one among those who experience so and feel awkward or absurd about it then relax; you are not the only one. Several studies show that there are a number of girls and women who experience an upsurge in the level of sexual desire right before their periods.

- A Swedish research says that women’s sexual interests and desires increase around the time of ovulation. Arizona State University researchers asked 236 women to keep diaries tracking theirĀ masturbation. They alsoĀ recordedĀ their basal body temperature, which highly increases at ovulation. Masturbation too peaked around ovulation.
- University of Virginia, Charlottesville, researchers used standard surveys to chart libido and sexual functioning in 115 women, aged 23 to 45. Each participant completed the survey twice, once mid-cycle around ovulation, and once pre-menstrually. The women reported significantly more interest in sex and greater satisfaction from orgasm at mid-cycle.
Anyhow, it is worth mentioning that it makes sense for women to be sexually more receptive around the time of ovulation. The biological purpose of life says that organisms are compelled to reproduce life. Thus, apparently it has made women to feel more sexually aroused when they are most likely to get pregnant.

While no strong point can be mentioned in this regard as to why some women feel extra horny just prior to their periods, but according to experts it can be said that it is due to the virtue of hormones.Ā During a normal menstrual cycle, most when feel a sexual desire-surge during ovulation. This makes sense from a reproductive standpoint. Right before ovulation, estrogen is at its highest peak, which ultimately makes you feel good. It is at its low during the week of your period, and so is progesterone (the hormone that prepares your body for pregnancy). So, it does make sense for your horniness to be at an all-month low during your period, too.
