Advised of Essential Oils for Reducing the Menstrual Cramps

From the inception of the mankind, massage therapy is one of the most popular treatments for any kind of pain. Nowadays, massage with oil takes an important place in the physiotherapy. From the medieval era, Ayurvedic massage was popular which is one of the key parts of Ayurvedic therapy. Just like the machine needs oil to function to its maximum capacity, our body too requires some kind of ‘oiling’ to make it work properly. Massage has some persuasive medical benefits, though it is inconsistent.

As an instance, we can see that a patient may get a relief from pain instantly which is caused by ‘muscles knots’ but, the effects may remain for a short while. But, most important part of a good massage lies in its emotional value of touch, effects on mood, and mental health; which are so profound that patient must enjoy the relief. These massages are channeled throughout our body and take care of fatigue, strengthening of the nervous system, nourishing the bodily tissues, and giving flexibility. The biggest efficacious inclination of an ayurvedic massage is that it can avail your sleep patterns.

Scientifically speaking, it has been proven that oil can revive your body, mind, and soul.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is experienced by over 80% percent of menstruating women. PMS may start a week or two before the period and may be transformed into severe. Hormone balance is the primary factor that will determine the PMS symptoms in someone. Common PMS symptoms include: fatigue, bloating, skin issues, emotional changes, breast tenderness, and cramps.

Menstrual cramps are one of the most common gynecological complaints among the female population. But sometimes, such pain becomes so excruciating that one doesn’t always reach for the medical treatments for pain relievers immediately; and here’s when mother nature comes into play. Essential oils may be one natural way to relieve pain. It can be an effective natural treatment for PMS. Each type of oils has its own unique scent and benefits. Oils can be used individually or as blends. Essential oils may be one natural way to relieve pain. It can be an effective natural treatment for PMS. It can be an effective natural treatment for PMS. Each type of oils has its own unique scent and benefits. Oils can be used individually or as blends. These oils also help control your pain when you’re in your those days of the months. Though there’s generally no harm in adding essential oils to your current pain management plan. But, we have to know how essential oils for menstrual cramps can be helpful when dealing with PMS.

So, these are some names of the essential oils that can help to reduce your menstrual cramps, are given below.

1. LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL:

This is an often-studied essential oil which has been linked to a number of health benefits, including improved sleep and lessened pain. First, it has anti-inflammatory properties. When uterus sheds its inner lining, it contracts and expands to push it out through the vagina. This can cause your uterus, and the surrounding blood vessels, to feel inflamed. This is where Lavender essential oil comes into play by relaxing muscles, and known for its calming effects. It also helps in migraine attacks during menstrual cycles.

2. ROSE ESSENTIAL OIL
It can help with so many things—from acting as a natural laxative (the hormone progesterone is the main culprit here) to containing emmenagogues (a substance that triggers menstruation, which is responsible if periods are irregular). So, in a word it can help in regulating the irregular periods by making the entire cycle more balanced. It also helps in decreasing cramps, fatigue, and nausea and boosts the mood during the period.

3. CLOVE ESSENTIAL OIL

Known for its antibacterial properties, this oil also fights against acne. Not only fighting acne, this oil comes handy alleviating menstrual pain. It can even help to shorten the duration of period and stop excessive bleeding, known as menorrhagia. It also helps to lower high blood pressure. Though, this essential oil in its concentrated form will irritate the skin, so the application must be diluted with a carrier oil.

4. YLANG-YLANG ESSENTIAL OIL
Any oil that can be an aphrodisiac must have mood-boosting potential. This is a double-sided coin when period comes. it not only serves as an antiseptic but also it has been used traditionally as an aphrodisiac. Ylang-ylang oil soothes the brain and central nervous system, making it easier to cope with stress and period-induced anxiety and depression.

5. NEROLI ESSENTIAL OIL
It comes from orange tree blossoms which has powerful relaxation properties just like orange oil. It is more effective for PMS symptoms. A study reveals that this oil is particularly beneficial during times when anxiety or stress hits a person.

6. CLARY SAGE ESSENTIAL OIL

It is very useful in reducing muscle cramping as well as improving peace of mind. It also has antiseptic properties, so it helps you fight against acne breakouts.

7. EUCALYPTUS OIL
It is considered one of the most popular of the essential oils. It can be found in everything from antiseptic to insect impervious. These anti-inflammatory benefits help women who are suffering from PMS.

8. PEPPERMINT OIL
This oil has an almost instant effect on energy levels. It can reduce appetite also which is mostly felt during the PMS.

9. ORANGE OIL
According to the study of a University, who made an experiment over 20 young women, it was found that this oil helps boost your mood and becomes helpful in making a relaxed state. Also, it has a great psychological effect.

10. MARJORAM ESSENTIAL OIL
It helps to reduce pain and inflammation by limiting muscles spasms, which actually leads to menstrual cramping, and also provide antibacterial properties.

At last but not least, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t regulate essential oils. This means that essential oil products can vary in purity, strength, and quality across manufacturers. So, be aware of that we should only purchase essential oils from reputable brands. One should keep in mind that not to use or ever apply undiluted essential oils directly to the skin and not to swallow also and must go for a skin patch test before applying diluted essential oils to your skin.

About Us

SheWings is a social movement to spread awareness about menstrual health among homeless, low income women and teens. Menstruation is a natural process. However, in most parts of the country it remains a taboo and is rarely talked about. We believe that no one should go without menstrual hygiene. We are a social enterprise to break the taboo about menstruation. We don’t need to speak in ‘low tones’ about menstruation. Let’s make as much noise as we can!
